Recently I had a very good friend of mine tell me that he had watched the final of a rather large Kabaddi tournament and how he enjoyed all of the "funny" aspects of the sport. He was talking about the commentators who commented in Punjabi and usually comment such matches in what many may consider a "low brow" language and style. He had many such observations and eve commented on the physical form of the players. Throughout his talk, I was however struck by the fact, that he actually saw the entire match and must have enjoyed it, so why was he in a sense bad mouthing the sport? I have later experienced this phenomenon to be quite prevalent exclusively amongst many in the Southasian community.
Is there a prejudice that surrounds these Punjabi sports? What are your experiences?
